Two Rippa R32-5 excavators sit side by side at our Boyd, Texas dealership, built a couple of months apart (plate dates of March and May 2026). Mike compares them, and the news is the cab. The machines are about 92% the same mechanically, but the cab is much improved in the newer one.

WHAT CHANGED IN THE NEWER CAB

- It's wider than the R32-3 cab by roughly 6.5 to 7 inches, with more room for taller operators (Mike is 6'1").

- A latch you can reach from the seat to open the door, so you don't have to climb out and push a button.

- More room in the engine compartment for service.

- A big single piece of front glass, large hinges, bigger vents and fans, and better air conditioning airflow.

- A cleaner look overall.

WHAT'S THE SAME

- Everything except the cab. The front of the machine, controls and mechanical specs are identical.

- The open version has steel mesh at the front like the R18, and the seat is different. If you buy the cab version and want to swap seats, the seat can be changed easily.

PRICE

- The no-cab machine costs less than the cab version, but not as much less as you might expect. Current pricing is on RippaUSASales.com, since prices can change.

UPDATES HE LIKES

- A better tie-down point matching the one on the R57.

- A computer rated as water-resistant. Rippa tested it with a water hose for 30 minutes, and the same computer is used on the RS06-3.

Mike parks the Rippa R22 next to the R32 and walks around both to show what the extra size gets you.

DIFFERENCES HE POINTS OUT

- Size: the R32 is a bit shorter in overall height, but its cab is wider, the machine is wider, and the track height is about 4 inches taller. At 6'1", Mike can walk under the R22's boom without ducking, and says the R32 will be more comfortable for most operators (no knock on the R22).

- Dozer blade: the R32 has a four-way blade, while the R22 has a straight up-and-down blade with wings.

- Chassis: the R22 has a retractable chassis so the tracks can narrow; the R32 does not.

- Heavy-duty parts: a thicker stick, a larger cylinder and a bigger bucket on the R32.

- Cab: the redesigned R32 cab has a purpose-built cubby for the backup camera, plus work lights for night operation.

Mike sits in the latest Rippa R32-5 to show the new screen update: the computer now supports streaming audio from your mobile phone, along with the after-sales options that were already there. The update applies to the R32, R18 and R22.

He also reports the cab speakers sound good and tests the air conditioning on a very hot day, around 107 degrees outside and about 80 degrees in the cab. Mike takes you inside the newest Rippa R32-4 mini excavator and shows the cab changes owners have been asking for.

WHAT'S IMPROVED INSIDE

- Redesigned door and frame. The frame has moved and the opening is much larger.

- An in-cabin fan and a defrost strip along the front glass, plus a vent for fresh air exchange.

- Warning labels are now in English and better written, with instructions printed in the cab for switching between ISO and SAE control patterns.

- A redesigned latch holds the hydraulic-line access door closed.

- Cleaner hydraulic line routing down the sides.

One note from Mike: a few grease fittings still aren't the preferred pointed type.

Mike shows the latest version of the Rippa R32 that just arrived at our Boyd, Texas dealership.

THE BIG CHANGES

- Four-way dozer blade. Before, the blade only moved up and down. Now a second cylinder pushes the blade side to side as well.

- Explosion-proof (safety) valve. If a hydraulic line ruptures while the bucket is raised, the arm won't slam down.

- Thumb mounting: a completely different way of attaching the thumb.

- Cleaner hoses: the hydraulic lines are tucked in along the boom instead of flopping around, and there is a different quick connect.

- New cab-top lights and updated stickers.

Mike mentions the larger R57 and R82 models are still working out how to add a four-way blade, with Rippa load testing it to make sure it's solid. Part 2 covers the interior.

WHAT HE DOES

- Uses a high-quality ceramic tint, installed by a professional shop, with a warranty. Mike mentions he has used one brand since 2012 and notes that the strongest adhesive can be expensive to remove later.

- The tint work covers the edges and detail areas cleanly and looks factory-installed.

- The glass on a tinted machine is barely warmer than skin temperature.

- Plans to tint about 10 cab machines a month, with more tinting scheduled.

UPDATES HE POINTS OUT

- A part that used to be held on with Velcro now has a proper steel mount.

- The computer has been updated on the R18, R22 and R32, and you can now stream music from your phone over Bluetooth (see our separate short video).

- Door and latch details, and a reminder to owners not to let the door slam.

UPGRADES ON THE NEWER MACHINES

- Explosion proof valve: if a hydraulic line is cut or fails, the boom stays put instead of dropping. Rippa tested it by cutting a hydraulic line with an angle grinder, and nothing moved.

- Pointed grease fittings: the cylinders that used to have flat faced fittings now have the pointed style, so a standard grease gun connects easily. Mike gives every new owner the correct fittings.

- An air suspension seat on the R32.

- Buttons on the joysticks: they will operate the thumb and some auxiliary functions that used to need floor switches. Foot pedals are expected to remain for some attachments, such as a brush cutter or rotary grapple.

R15 ENCLOSED CAB

The R15 cab is solid and well built, but Mike points out a few things: there is no glass in the roof, so the operator has to hunch down to see up, and it has circulation air rather than air conditioning. In hot climates that makes it tough in summer, but it can be great in winter.

R32 CAB

The R32 cab has glass up top for easy viewing of the work above, and a door built differently from the R15. Mike also says to measure your machine height before you go under things or load it on a trailer.
