Mike from Rippa USA Sales shows how to update the firmware on the display computer in a Rippa R18, R22 or R32 mini excavator so the temperature reads in Fahrenheit instead of Celsius. This is part 1 of 2.
BACKGROUND
These machines are set up in China, so the display starts in Celsius. A separate video shows how to change the display language to English, and there are eight or nine language options. RPM is already easy to read, but temperature needs a firmware update to switch from Celsius to Fahrenheit.
THE PROCESS
1. Get the firmware file from your dealer or from Rippa. We plan to post it on our website.
2. Load the file onto the computer as shown in the video and let it run. A small purple indicator light shows progress.
3. When it finishes, turn the machine off, then turn it back on to accessory. The temperature will now show in the new units.
IMPORTANT WARNING
There are two versions of this computer. The update in this video works only on the newer version. Loading it on the other version can brick the computer. Before you update, contact your dealer or Rippa and send the serial number or a picture of the machine plate so they can confirm you have the correct version. Rippa was reported to be working on a version for the older computer.
