We get a lot of calls asking what the Rippa RS03 can do and how it differs from the RS06. Mike from Rippa USA Sales explains the controls, the engines and what each machine is best at.
CHAPTERS
- RS03 versus RS06 overview
- RS06 controls and features
- RS03 operation challenges
- Value and maintenance
- Hydraulic flow differences
- RS03 application examples
CONTROLS
- RS06: a joystick layout. Push forward and back to raise and lower the boom, left and right to curl the bucket, and the machine drives while you lift and tilt.
- RS03: tank style controls. Each stick drives one track. Push both forward together to go straight, pull both back together to reverse, and ease off one side to turn, just like a zero turn mower. It has a lot of power for its size, so hold on when you turn sharply.
- The RS03 does not have the hydraulic flow to lift and tilt comfortably while you drive. The RS06 does.
ENGINES AND MAINTENANCE
- RS03: gas engine that is easy to service and straightforward to replace if it ever wears out, since it is a standard style horizontal shaft engine.
- RS06: Kubota diesel engine. With proper maintenance (oil, filters, fluids and greasing) Mike expects it to run for many years.
- Either way, the main parts to watch are the hydraulic pump and the usual wear items, and you have a warranty for a period of time.
WHERE THE RS03 SHINES
The RS03 is under 36 inches wide, so it fits through a standard gate. HVAC contractors buy it to carry rooftop and mini split units through narrow gates on pallet forks. The RS06 is the better choice when you need more lift, speed and continuous hydraulic work.
